The way you answer this question will determine whether or not you get the job. Here are the answers to the STAR interview questions.
I was working on a project that needed to be completed by the end of the week
S - The situation was that I was working on a project that needed to be completed by the end of the week.
T - My role in this situation was to make sure the project was completed on time and that it followed the guidelines set out by my boss. The task was to work with my team members and complete the project by making sure we all understood our roles and responsibilities.
A - The action I took was to communicate with my team members about their responsibilities and how they could help me complete my tasks. We also worked together to create a schedule for completing each step of the process so we could meet our deadline.
R - The result was that we were able to successfully complete our project on time.
The product manager gave us a tight deadline on an internal project
S - I was working with a team of software developers on an internal project. The product manager gave us a tight deadline to meet, and we were given some tough constraints to work within.
T - My role in this situation was to design the application's user interface and ensure that it met all user needs. I also had to ensure that the app was accessible to both blind users and those with low vision.
A - To meet our deadline, I worked closely with my manager to prioritize tasks so we could focus on what was most important first. We also got other members of our team involved in the process to help brainstorm ideas and give input on designs. Finally, I worked closely with our visual design team so they could create mockups that reflected what we had envisioned for the app's look and feel.
R - Our app was successfully launched at its planned launch date thanks to all of our hard work; however, there are always areas where improvement could be made. One area we might improve is by adding more accessibility features for blind users (such as audio descriptions).
The company gave me two weeks to complete to create a website for launching a new product
S - I’ve been in a situation where I had to work under a tight deadline. One time my job was to create a website for a new product launch. The company wanted to launch the product as soon as possible and so they gave me two weeks to complete it.
T - I was tasked with designing the website and writing all of the content for it. This included choosing a color scheme, working with graphic designers for our logo, and finding images for our products. I also had to write descriptions for each product that would show up on the website.
A - I had help from other members of my team but ultimately, it was up to me to make sure everything would be ready on time.
R - The result of my actions was a successful launch of our new product line!
Our client wanted us to solve the website problem with a creative solution by the end of the week
S - The situation was that my team and I were working on a client project. We had just been given an important task to complete by the end of the week, and there was no way we could do it in time.
T - The task was to come up with a creative solution to a problem our client was having with their website. They had asked us for help because they wanted something that would make their site more user-friendly and visually appealing, but we weren't sure what exactly it would take to achieve those goals.
A - We decided that the best thing for us to do would be to meet with them face-to-face so we could get some more information about what exactly they wanted from us, which is why we scheduled a meeting for later that afternoon.
R - After our meeting with the client, we went back to the office and started brainstorming ideas. The next day we presented them with three different solutions—two that were simple but effective ways of improving their site's usability and one more complex option that would require more time but might give them better results in the long run. They chose one of our simpler solutions as well as another option that combined elements from both suggestions.
I had to write a blog post for a client who needed it by the end of the day
S - I've had to work under a tight deadline many times. One of the most memorable times was when I was working as a freelance writer and had to write a blog post for a client who needed it by the end of the day.
T - I was given the topic and instructions by my editor, but I had no idea what kind of content would be acceptable. I decided to do some research on the topic before starting to write, which helped me understand what would be expected from me.
A - I also reached out to some experts in the field for help with getting started on my article. They were very helpful and provided me with some great insights that helped me write an excellent article that met all of my client's needs.
R - In addition, I made sure that I followed up with my editors about my progress every few hours so they could keep track of where I was in terms of finishing up on time.
I was working as a data analyst for a small startup under a tight deadline on several occasions
S - I have had to work under a tight deadline on several occasions. In this case, I was working as a data analyst for a small startup. We were working on a project that would allow us to predict the future demand for products in order to better plan our inventory levels. This would allow us to avoid overstocking and understocking at any given time.
T - The task was to develop an algorithm that could accurately predict the future sales of products based on past trends.
A - I decided that the best way to do this would be through machine learning, so I spent some time researching different algorithms and how they functioned in order to develop one that would work best for our needs. I then implemented this algorithm into our system and tested it against historical data from previous years in order to see if it worked as well as we all hoped it would.
R - As it turned out, yes! The algorithm worked very well and provided us with much more accurate predictions than what we had been using before (which was just manually looking at trends). This meant that we could now make better decisions about which products should be stocked up on and which ones shouldn’t be stocked until next year (or whenever demand picks back up again).
I was assigned the task of writing some key marketing materials for the company
S - My last job was working with a team of people to create a product for an international client. We were all on a tight deadline, and I was assigned the task of writing some key marketing materials for the company.
T - As a marketer, I had to make sure that the language in these materials was engaging and appealing to both the client and their target audience. I also made sure that all of my writing complied with the brand guidelines set by our client.
A - I did not go out of my way to do more than what was expected of me but rather I just took on this task with enthusiasm and dedication. I knew that if I did not complete it successfully within the time allotted then we would not be able to meet our deadline.
R - We were able to successfully deliver all of these documents within the deadline given by our client thanks to my efforts.
